Nikkei-CNBC Multilingual e-commerce UI/UX & Japanese localisation
Bespoke multilingual licensing and e-commerce platform for Nikkei-CNBC video content, replacing a manual licensing process with automated purchasing and fulfilment.
Project
I designed and developed the UI/UX for a bespoke licensing and e-commerce platform supporting Nikkei-CNBC's video content, creating a multilingual purchasing experience for an international audience.
The platform was designed to replace a more manual licensing process with a structured digital journey covering content discovery, licensing, purchasing and fulfilment.
The interface was developed using PHP, JavaScript and CSS, with the frontend dynamically adapting to the user's language requirements.
Japanese localisation
A major part of the project was creating a genuine Japanese-language experience rather than simply providing a translated version of an English website.
The platform incorporates dynamic language and IP-based detection, allowing the experience to respond to the user's location and language requirements.
I worked directly with a Japanese translator throughout the implementation, using their translations within the interface while ensuring that the resulting layouts, navigation and purchasing flows remained usable in Japanese.
This required consideration of differences in text length, hierarchy and interface presentation between English and Japanese, rather than treating localisation as a simple content replacement exercise.
